A link, inside the code

Put a web address in a WIA Code. Unlike a shortener, nothing sits in between: the scanner reads the address straight out of the code and shows it before opening it.

Opens the generator with this type selected. Everything happens in your browser.

Rendered by the same engine as the generator. Point the WIA scanner at it — or a plain camera at the small booster QR in the middle.

What the code carries

A plain https:// address, exactly as you typed it. No shortening, no tracking, no expiry — if the page exists, the code works, and if you ever change your mind you print a new code rather than editing a database.

https:// URL

What happens when it is scanned

  1. The WIA scanner decodes the address from the dots — no network request is needed to read it.
  2. It shows the host and the full URL on a card, so people see where they are going before they go.
  3. One tap opens the page in the browser. A plain camera app reads the booster QR instead and lands on the web scanner.

Why a WIA Code for this

The address is visible before opening — no blind redirects, no link-shortener domain in the middle.
Long addresses fit: an M grid holds hundreds of bytes, several times a same-size QR.
The silhouette is yours — a heart, a circle, or your name seal from the brand page — and it still scans.

How much fits

Measured on the live engine (bytes of content, after error correction). The QR column is a standard QR code of the same printed size, for comparison.

M · 96 modules · round608151
L · 128 modules · round11283221092

This page's example is 41 bytes. The booster QR is a small standard QR placed in the centre so phones without the WIA scanner still get somewhere useful — it leads to the web scanner, which then reads the full code.

Questions people ask

Does the code stop working if wiacode.com is down?
No. The URL is stored in the code itself. The WIA scanner reads it offline; only opening the page needs your normal internet connection.
Can I change the destination later?
Not without printing a new code — that is the point. There is no database entry to edit, so nobody else can change it either.
Will a normal QR app read it?
A plain camera reads the small booster QR in the centre, which opens the WIA web scanner. The full code is read by the WIA scanner.
Does WIA see what people open?
No. Reading the code happens on the phone. There is no click tracking unless you point the link at your own analytics.
How long can the address be?
Longer than a QR of the same size — see the capacity table above. If it does not fit, pick a larger grid or a fuller silhouette.
