A task, handed over by scanning

A task with an optional due date and note in the standard VTODO format. Stick it on a kit, a machine or a door: whoever scans gets the task in their app.

Opens the generator with this type selected. Everything happens in your browser.

Round WIA Code carrying a to-do item
Rendered by the same engine as the generator. Point the WIA scanner at it — or a plain camera at the small booster QR in the middle.

What the code carries

A VTODO block (RFC 5545): summary, optional due date and description. Apps that understand calendar data can import it as a task.

iCalendar VTODO (RFC 5545)

What happens when it is scanned

  1. The scanner reads the task from the code.
  2. It shows the title, due date and note.
  3. The phone offers to save it to a tasks or reminders app that accepts VTODO; otherwise the text stays readable on the card.

Why a WIA Code for this

A checklist step lives on the object itself — the fire extinguisher, the rental bike, the sample box.
No account, no app of ours: the task is in the code, in an open format.
Enough room for real instructions, not just a title.

How much fits

Measured on the live engine (bytes of content, after error correction). The QR column is a standard QR code of the same printed size, for comparison.

M · 96 modules · round608151
L · 128 modules · round11283221092

This page's example is 107 bytes. The booster QR is a small standard QR placed in the centre so phones without the WIA scanner still get somewhere useful — it leads to the web scanner, which then reads the full code.

Questions people ask

Which apps accept it?
Apps that import iCalendar tasks (VTODO). Support varies; the WIA scanner always shows the text even when no app claims it.
Can I set a due date?
Yes — the generator has a due-date field.
Can several tasks share one code?
One task per code keeps it simple and scannable. Print several codes for a checklist.
Is it the same as a reminder QR?
Same open format, more room, and the code can carry your silhouette.
Does a plain camera work?
It reads the booster QR and opens the web scanner, which then reads the task.

Other kinds of content

WIA Code is a radial-symmetry 2D code. The content lives in the code; there is no server in between when it is scanned. Generated with the WIA Code engine · scannable · no account needed
