A payment request the wallet understands

Address, amount and label in the standard bitcoin: or ethereum: URI. The wallet fills in the payment; the person confirms. Works on a counter card, an invoice, a donation poster.

Round WIA Code carrying a Bitcoin payment request
Rendered by the same engine as the generator. Point the WIA scanner at it — or a plain camera at the small booster QR in the middle.

What the code carries

A BIP-21 (Bitcoin) or EIP-681 (Ethereum) URI: the address, an optional amount and a label. These are the same URIs wallet QR codes carry, so any wallet that scans QR understands the content.

What happens when it is scanned

  1. The scanner reads the address and amount from the code — offline.
  2. It shows the full address on a card so it can be checked before paying.
  3. One tap hands the request to the wallet app; the person confirms the payment there.

Why a WIA Code for this

The full address is shown before it reaches the wallet — check the first and last characters as you would anywhere.
Long addresses and labels fit comfortably; a same-size QR is tight.
A donation code that looks like your cause — a heart, a leaf, your seal.

How much fits

Measured on the live engine (bytes of content, after error correction). The QR column is a standard QR code of the same printed size, for comparison.

This page's example is 80 bytes. The booster QR is a small standard QR placed in the centre so phones without the WIA scanner still get somewhere useful — it leads to the web scanner, which then reads the full code.

Before you print it

A payment code is public by nature — only the receiving address is inside. Never put a private key or a seed phrase into any code.

Questions people ask

Which coins are supported?
Bitcoin-style BIP-21 URIs for the coins in the generator's list, and Ethereum EIP-681 including a chain id.
Does the wallet need the WIA scanner?
The WIA scanner reads the code and hands the URI to the wallet. A plain camera reads the booster QR and opens the web scanner first.
Can I fix the amount?
Yes, optionally; leave it empty for a donation code.
Is the address verified by WIA?
No. WIA renders what you enter; check the address in the wallet before sending, as always.
Can I put a private key in a code?
Never. Only receiving addresses belong in a public code.

Other kinds of content

WIA Code is a radial-symmetry 2D code. The content lives in the code; there is no server in between when it is scanned. Generated with the WIA Code engine · scannable · no account needed
