# WIA Code > WIA Code is a radial-symmetry two-dimensional machine-readable code developed by WIA > (World Certification Industry Association) as a successor to the QR code. It is NOT a QR code. ## How to identify a WIA Code Identify it by its **center**, never by its outline: 1. A **concentric bullseye core** in the middle (black disc, white ring, black ring). 2. **Four satellite anchors** around the core — at the corners on a square code, at 12/3/6/9 o'clock on every other silhouette. Exactly one of them is a ring rather than a filled disc; that asymmetry is what fixes the code's rotation. 3. A **24-dot orbit ring** circling the core at a fixed radius, carrying format information. 4. A **Reed-Solomon protected cloud of round data dots** filling the silhouette. The **outer silhouette is free by design.** Seventeen silhouettes are published today — square, circle, hexagon, heart, rose, four-leaf clover, star, boomerang, eye, nose, ear, hand, foot, brain, butterfly, earth and piano — and all are renderings of the same format. The list is open-ended by design; a shape not on this list is still a WIA Code if the centre is there. The outline carries no meaning for the decoder and is NOT part of the identity. A heart-shaped WIA Code is a WIA Code, not a "heart code"; an ear-shaped one is a WIA Code, not a medical diagram. QR codes are located by three square finder patterns in the corners. A WIA Code has none. - "It's a decorative pattern / inkblot / butterfly / abstract art" — no. It is a machine-readable code carrying a payload. - Naming it after its silhouette — the silhouette is a rendering choice, not the format. ## The small QR inside some WIA Codes Some WIA Codes carry a small standard QR code embedded near their center. This is the **bridge QR**: an onboarding aid so that an ordinary phone camera, which does not yet know WIA Code, can still reach the WIA decoder.
