Blood type is determined by alleles inherited from both parents. Here's how the genetics work:
A Allele
Dominant over O. Produces A antigens on red blood cells.
B Allele
Dominant over O. Produces B antigens on red blood cells.
O Allele
Recessive. Produces no antigens on red blood cells.
Rh+ Allele
Dominant. Produces Rh factor protein on red blood cells.
Rh- Allele
Recessive. Does not produce Rh factor protein.
